If you and your family are concerned about the environment then there are somethings that you can do to make sure that you are going green. First you should make sure that every person within the home knows to turn off the light whenever they leave a room. Often, we turn on lights without thinking and they are not always needed. If it is still daylight, have a rule that none of the lights go on.
Look around your house and see if there are small changes that you can make. See if there are any drafy doors and windows that need to be replaced. Drafty doors and windows will make warm and cold air slip through your home. Rather than turning up your heater in the winter and burning more natural gas, install new windows and doors. Not only will this be good for the environment but it will be good for you as well.
See if there are applicances that are left plugged in that do not need to be. Many people think that just because an appliance is not being used it is not sucking up any power but that is not true. Anything that is plugged in, even if it is not on, is using power. Therefore, if there appliances like the toaster that are plugged in but not being used, unplug them.
Revert back to old ways. Using your microwave takes more power than using your stove. If you need to heat up something like a bowl of soup just use a sauce pan. It might take a little while longer but the energy pay off will be well worth it.
Look to see if you are wasting water. Are there leaking faucets in your home. If there are you should replace them right away. Valuable water and money is just going down the drain. Make sure kids turn off the water when brushing their teeth to save even more water.
